The Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science at the Al-Karkh University of Science organized its fourth scientific symposium, entitled "Electromagnetic waves and their applications in medicine", with the participation of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the University of Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriya University, Al-Nahrain University and Al-Fallujah University, and in the presence of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Loay Kazem.
The symposium, which was held under the auspices of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Thamer Abdel Amir Hassan, included two sessions. The first session included several lectures. The first dealt with the interaction of X-ray and gamma rays with the material, presented by Dr. Adnan Mohsen, and the second lecture presented by Dr. Nada Abdullah included the applications of medical image analysis, The third lecture, presented by Dr. Ali Jassim, explained air-optical sensors and imaging and their applications in biomedicine. In his lecture, Dr. Ahmed Hussein reviewed the use of radiation in medicine.
The second session included five lectures. The first was presented by Dr. Nabaa Abdullah, entitled The Electromagnetic Spectrum, Its Reality and Its Future… and its Applications in Oncology. The second lecture was presented by Dr. Ahmed Naji, entitled Electromagnetic waves and their effects on the human body. She was treated physically, and the session included a lecture on the use of resonance as a medical tool presented by Dr. Ashraf Muhammad, and the instructor explained by Mrs. Kawakib Jaafar the dangers of excessive use of the monitor.
The symposium aims at exchanging applied and scientific experiences in the various branches of medical physics, enriching the academic and knowledge side of professional work and examining the role of supporting technology in overcoming the difficulties of learning the fields of medical physics and providing scientific recommendations in an effort to create a comprehensive vision based on the prospects and challenges of medical physics applications.
