Al-Karkh University of Science held a scientific lecture on the use of h-index to measure the quality of scientific research. The lecture was presented by Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majid, Director General of Research and Development Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Chancellor of the University , the Vice-Chancellors for scientific and administrative affairs and the heads of departments were among the attendees.

The lecture included the definition of the global h-index and the definition of “scopus -web of science,” and the definition of the correct way to improve the classification in the index through the correct calculation and the use of citations required.

The three databases, because of their wide impact and important resonance at the personal, local and international levels, contribute to the upgrading of the university's classification locally and internationally.

The lecture ended with several recommendations, the most important ones were the need to adopt a unified name for the university in the publication of research, and the importance of holding periodic workshops by the sections of quality assurance to follow up progress in the performance of the university in the scientific research movement within the global databases.

At the end of the lecture, the Chancellor of Al-Karkh University of Science granted the shield of the University to Dr. Ghassan Hamid in appreciation of his efforts in developing the performance of scientific research in Iraq and his continuous endeavor to provide all that would contribute to meeting the scientific and academic progress in the universities of Iraq in general. The chancellor also appreciated his great efforts in preparing the lecture, in the University.
